An organization of pediatricians recently issued a damning report against gender identity, saying that letting children pick their gender, basically, amounts to child abuse. And the American College of Pediatricians issued a strong recommendation based on their reports. They said legislators and educators should, basically, reject all policies involving transgender children. No chemicals. No surgeries. No accommodations. Now, the Religious Right has been saying this stuff for years, and they finally have a professional organization backing them up. It’s unbelievable, isn’t it? Yes! It is. Literally. Because the American College of Pediatricians ISN’T a legitimate organization dedicated to science. It’s a Conservative group, with a couple hundred members, tops, that REQUIRES those members to adopt a certain set of ideologies. If you’re looking for the organization that represents what the best pediatricians in the country have to say, then you’ll want to check out the American Academy of Pediatrics. THAT’S the organization with more than 60,000 members and trusted by scientists everywhere. The fake American College of Pediatricians decided more than a decade ago to, basically, mimic the name, website, and mission of the legitimate AAP, in order to trick people into accepting THEIR recommendations on everything – from abortion to LGBT issues. So what does the fake American College of Pediatricians have to say about gender identity and transgender issues? Well, for one, they say that the suicide rates are 20 times higher for adults who have hormone therapy or sex reassignment surgery. And, they add that no compassionate or reasonable person would want to put someone through that. Now, that suggests that the hormones and surgery causes the suicide rates to be that high. The truth is that the suicide rates are higher for that community, because transgendered people are more likely to be bullied, beaten and shunned by the general public. The problem isn’t who they are. The problem is what they have to deal with at the hands of Jesus-loving Christians. And basically, for every claim made by the Conservative fake group, the real scientists say something very different. And only the real group has credible research to back it all up. Now, you might ask, are the members of the fake American College of Pediatricians actual doctors? Yes. They are. But, they’re also Ph.D’s who work at the Creation Museum. I mean, just because you have an advanced degree, doesn’t, necessarily, mean you know what you’re talking about. And it, certaintly, doesn’t make you a great scientist. Remember “Dr.” Ben Carson? The question you SHOULD be asking is: “What does it take to become a member of each of these groups?” Outside of membership dues, the legitimate AAP just requires you to have proper credentials, whether you were a Board Certified Physician or a Medical student. The fake American College of Pediatricians requires you to accept their mission and vision statements, which say things like, “Only straight couples can raise kids properly.” In other words, if you think gay parents are not a problem, and you think sex positivity is a good thing, and you think women should have the right to choose whether, or not, to have an abortion, you’re not allowed to be a member in the fake American College of Pediatricians. They’ve already made those decisions for you. Isn’t that sweet? That’s why they say things like “induced abortions cause breast cancer”, even though we KNOW that’s not true. It’s not about following the research where it leads; it’s about promoting a certain set of beliefs, regardless of what the evidence says. I mean, that’s the very opposite of what ANY professional organization ought to be doing. As one of my readers pointed out, it’s a lot like those crisis pregnancy centers, that are designed to look like a Planned Parenthood clinic. They’re not interested in your health, and they’re not staffed by people with the highest credentials. They’re only interested in pushing their ideologies onto you, even if it’s not scientifically accurate. Because for Conservative Christians like these, lying is always okay, if you’re doing it in the name of Jesus. By the way, Dr. Francis Collins, the Evangelical Christian, who runs the National Institutes of Health – he once SLAMMED the fake American College of Pediatricians, because they used his words out of context to promote their anti-gay ideology. That’s how despicable these people are. So don’t fall for what the American College of Pediatricians says about anything. It’s a sham group, designed to promote ideology, that’s not backed up by any credible science. My name is Hemant Mehta, and I write at FriendlyAtheist.com. What do you want to see a video about?
