Om Namashivaya…. Somaramam. Somaramam is one of the Pancharamas, located in Bhimavaram, which is the financial city of West Godavari District. Pancharamas Pancha means Five, Aaramam means located Place. These are the places of Lord Shiva. Pancharamas are born from Lord Shivas Amrutha Aathma Linga According to Skanda puranam and Brahmanda puranas, Rakshasa named Tarakasura stolen the Aathma Linga, orginated orginated from Ksherasagara madanam, and placed in his throat. Tarakasura defeated Devathas and occupied their place. Devathas got frighten and went to Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu said that, Tarakasura was great devotee of Lord Shiva, so pray to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva heard the prayers of Devathas and said that, Tarakasura was my devotee, I can’t kill him. Lord Shiva deputed Lord Kumara Swamy, to lead the army of Devathas. Kumara Swamy found himself unable to deal with Tarakasura, he getting his life back. Kumara Swamy again prays to Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu advised him, to break the Amrutha Athma Linga using his Shakthi astram. In that way Aathma Linga broken to Five pieces and fell at five different places. Those are Pancharamas. Somaramam is the fourth of Pancharamas. In Somaramam Shivaling was installed by Lord Chandra. Due to this Shivaling changes its color as per lunar aspects. During Pournami Sivaling changes to white color and for Amavasya color changes to black. This temple was build in 2nd century by Chalukya king Bheema In this temple towards the left side of Garbhalaym Goddess Parvathi devi was placed. Another unique feature was Goddess Annapurna Devi’s temple was built on top of garbhalayam something that cannot be seen anywhere in the world. People’s belief is that, this is due to, Lord Shiva Places Goddess Ganga on his sirojatam In-front of the galigopuram there is a pond named Chandra kundam. Now a days this is also known as Somakundam In this temple there are other temples like Sri Anjaneya swamy temple, Kumara Swamy temple Seetha rama temple, Statues of Lord Ganesha, Lord Surya bagavan were placed.
