Report: Trump Mocks Pence Over His Religious Beliefs Just a week after becoming the first sitting president to speak at the Values Voters Summit, a new report claims President Donald Trump often mocks Vice President Mike Pence over his religiosity. “Did Mike make you pray?” Trump scoffingly asks people after meeting with the former Indiana governor, according to the New Yorker. The sprawling profile reveals the president has also reportedly poked fun at Pence for still fighting to overturn Roe v. Wade. In a meeting, a legal expert suggested that even if the landmark law was negated, states would likely legalize abortion regardless, leading Trump to ask Pence, “You see? Youve wasted all this time and energy on it, and its not going to end abortion anyway. Once the discussion shifted toward gay rights, Trump jokingly turned toward the vice president and said: “Dont ask that guy — he wants to hang them all!”. However, during the presidents speech at the social conservative conference, Trump claimed “times have changed. now theyre changing back.”. “I pledged that in a Trump administration, our nations religious heritage would be cherished, protected, and defended like you have never seen before,” he said. “Thats whats happening, and you see it every day.”. “In America, we dont worship government. In the past, the presidents faith has been called into question, including by the pope, who said Trump is “not Christian” over his plans for a wall on the southern U.S. border. “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the Gospel,” the pope said, who later walked back his remarks as not a personal attack. The president also faced criticism during the campaign for repeatedly dodging reciting his favorite Bible verse. “I wouldnt want to get into it. Because to me, thats very personal,” the president said.
